| The
Appeal would like to thank and congratulate everybody who has played
a part in the collecting, fundraising and logistics required to send
aid to Banda Aceh and its outlying communities in Sumatra, Indonesia.
The first SIX containers have arrived and their contents have been
distributed!
With two more containers already in Indonesia and two more in transit,
the Appeal is set to move in to a new phase. We have stopped collecting
aid at this time although a consignment of computers is still being
prepared for shipment and work begun through the Appeal with the Rotary
Club will hopefully see large shipments of Water-Aid sent to the region
for the indefinite future.
We will continue to fundraise through a variety of avenues to continue
our work. Shirley is staying in Indonesia for another week (having been
there for two months!), Yulia has just gone out there for a month. In
addition to helping coordinate distribution of the aid as it arrives
we are working with local organisations and what remains of communities
to find solutions to long term issues.
Shirley, Rosita, Susy and Yulia would all like to offer their most sincere
thanks to all those who have given them help and support so far during
their time in Singapore and Sumatra and to all those who made the journey
possible and comfortable. All our hearts go out to those they have met
suffering and in need. The appeal would also like to thank all those
who have assisted with or funded transportation and distribution inside
Indonesia.
Thanks again to you all, to the individuals and families you are too
numerous to list, to the local businesses who've supported us please
see our Sponsors page and check you're mentioned. Our apologies if not,
please let us know!
Expect more news on what the Lacey Aceh Appeal has planned here soon,
Updates on Shirley and Yulia’s experiences in South East Asia
can be found on the Latest Page soon.
The
Photo’s on this page were taken in Banda Aceh on the 18th Feb
and show Shirley and some of the aid which was in the first container
being distributed with help of Sekolah Rakyat (School for the Poors),
a local NGO.
